Running on Empty - Time to Refill

Every day, most of us work, care for our families, and perform countless other tasks without giving much thought to ourselves. We wonder why we feel fatigued, dissatisfied or sad--bogged down.

You know everyone's favorite superlative? I'm striking the prefix "super" from my vocabulary.  The more I pressure myself, the less I accomplish; the less I accomplish, the more disillusioned I become. It's a proven fact that feelings of inadequacy can lead to depression...

This week, my personal challenge was to cut myself some slack. Lower my expectations. Show myself the same consideration I would someone else.  Take a deep breath and stop stressing.

From here on out, I invite you to join me in finding ways to "be kind to yourself."  Remember...you're special, too.

  1. Yes I too said "No" this week and felt quite liberated as well as pleasantly surprised by the reaction of others :) Good to have chance to think about our own health and well-being. I'm enjoying the Challenge :)

  3. I am constantly adjusting the balancing act, but when I find myself getting overwhelmed again, I evaluate before it gets too late, and let things go. I am always working on how to say no. That one's a bit harder! Great post!

    1. Sometimes, that's the best we can do, especially when family or friends need us. Balance is key. :)

  4. Good for you for realizing when you are empty and need to refill and finding ways to do that. I love your idea of removing "super" from your vocabulary and self-expectations. And slow deep breaths are a secret weapon of mine to center and relax too.

    1. Thanks, Deborah. Deep breathing definitely helps...especially when I feel like I'm going off the deep end. It's hard to be everything to everyone; easy to lose sight of ourselves.
